Walking 200 miles for Alport · 1 September 2026

Alport UK is a patient-led charity dedicated to facilitating a support and information network for all those affected by Alport Syndrome. Our Vision is to ensure that all individuals and families with Alport Syndrome feel empowered to enjoy the best quality of life.

Story

We’re Becca and Jamie, two best friends taking on 200 Miles for Alport this September.

The challenge

Throughout the month, we will each walk 100 miles – sometimes together and sometimes on our own – for a combined 200 miles in 30 days.

For us, this challenge is personal.

Becca's story

Becca is 19 and lives with Autosomal Recessive Alport Syndrome (ARAS), a rare genetic condition that can affect the kidneys, hearing and eyes. She was diagnosed around 10 years ago and wears hearing aids as a result of her hearing loss.

Over the years, Becca has met healthcare professionals who knew very little about Alport Syndrome. She even keeps information about Alport ready to take with her to hospital.

That experience is one of the reasons we want this challenge to be about awareness as well as fundraising.

Jamie's story

Jamie has been by Becca’s side through many hospital appointments and has been learning about Alport throughout their friendship.

As Jamie says:

“Becca is my absolute rock. Her family has taken me in as one of their own.”
