Les Shaw is raising money for Leeds Hospitals Charity
In memory of Julie Shaw

200 Miles for MND in memory of Julie · 1 May 2025

Rob Burrow was an inspiration. Despite facing his own challenges, he was devoted to raising awareness and funds to help people living with MND in Leeds and their loved ones, until the end.

Story

MND - Motor neurone disease is a rare condition affecting the brain and nerves. It eventually leads to death, there is currently no cure for motor neurone disease.

Unfortunately, Les’s beloved wife Julie suffered through this awful disease and passed away 2nd August 2024. Through Julie’s journey of motor neurone disease they had to live through her going from full independence to losing her mobility, muscle wastage and voice. Julie eventually ended up fully paralysed in a wheelchair with a feeding tube fitted and unable to speak due to losing her voice. Julie was a ray of sunshine with the biggest heart of gold, she was a very well known and loved lady. A wife, a mother, nana, sister and friend to many! To watch his soul mate of 40 years lose everything it broke his heart. They did not receive any help and did not have the support from anyone other than friends and family, without them they would have been broken into a thousand pieces.

There is currently no cure for motor neurone disease and there’s not enough awareness and funding raised to help with this cruel disease. Les Shaw is taking on the challenge to cycle 200 miles across 3 days with Tony Kopamees, Matthew Shaw, Colin Blenkiron & Martin Crofton. Shaun Plummer will also be helping with the challenge to provide any support for the team cycling as a physio/driver. They will start this from 1st May - 4th May 2025.

First stop Morecambe

Second stop Settle

Third stop York

Fourth stop Bridlington

Final stop Hull to finish off in the Ravenser pub.

They are hoping to raise as much funds as we can to donate to the Rob Burrow Centre - Leeds Hospital Charity. The funds raised will help towards the £6.8 million specialist MND Care Centre in Leeds and also support people living through MND.

People unfortunately don’t receive enough support mentally and financially and have to suffer more than they should have to. People need help today, not tomorrow it’s time to raise awareness and attack MND!

All welcome to join us in Ravenser (178 Southcoates lane, HU9 3AP) at the finish stop on Sunday 4th May 2025 from 1pm onwards where the landlady Sammy is putting on food and entertainment for this great cause.
