-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello. We are Abi, Amanda, Callum, Charlie, Helen, Jess, Kate, Kate, Mike, Miles,Nia, Sharon, Tanya and Vanessa - some of the 200 volunteers at the Samaritans Brighton Hove and District.
When things seem bleak, and people are in distress or despair, we are there to offer a listening ear, no matter what time of day or night, 365 days a year - over 25,000 times last year! As one of the larger Samaritans branches, we also collaborate with local partners like CRUSE East Sussex, HMP Lewes, railway staff, Pride, Trans Pride, universities, schools and colleges, businesses, and community organisations to promote the Samaritan's message of being there for each other to help reduce the number of suicides.
Although all of us at the branch are unpaid, we need £165 a day just to keep our phone lines open and ensure we provide support to people in our communities. We need to raise £60,000 every year to continue to offer our service.
That’s why some of us, together with friends and family, are are running/jogging/walking the Brighton Marathon 10K this year, and seeking sponsorship. If you’d like to support Tanya, Sharon, Vanessa, Amanda, Jess, Mike, Pete, Brodie, Diane and Francesca in that, please use the link below.
Thanks for reading this, and for any support you can offer. Now we just need to run…
