Witham Hall Fun Run 2024 · 3 May 2024

We are a children's cancer charity funding research into finding more targeted and less harsh treatments for rhabdomyosarcoma. We support the children and families impacted by the disease. Working in conjunction with the Institute of Cancer Research and Great Ormond Street Hospital to achieve this.

Story

On Friday 3rd March Witham Hall pupils and staff will complete the annual Fun Run in support of Tommy's Arc, a specific fund of the umbrella charity, Alice’s Arc. Click here to read Tommy's story. Thank you for your contribution and sponsorship!

In the summer of 2021, Witham Hall pupil, Tommy, began a fierce battle with Rhabdomyosarcoma. We have chosen Tommy's Arc in his family’s honour to support all that they are going through and to get behind the fight against Rhabdomyosarcoma. Currently, only 2-3% of cancer research funding in the UK goes towards all childhood cancers. Alice's Arc is an organisation dedicated to finding a cure and kinder, more targeted treatments for those affected by Rhabdomyosarcoma.

Alice’s Arc was inspired by Alice's journey with cancer. She was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma at age 3 in March 2015. She had 20 months of chemotherapy at GOSH, UK and proton radiation in the US. Alice spent a year cancer free but it returned in February 2018. She underwent 6 months of chemotherapy and a procedure known as AMORE in Amsterdam involving surgery and brachytherapy. Alice spent another year clear before tumours were found in her abdomen and pelvis in July 2019. There were no options left. Alice died, aged 7, in October 2019.
