Story
October 1999 will mark the 25 year anniversary since I was diagnosed with leukaemia, which I want to do something different to mark such a milestone in October 2024, so instead of running, I have decided to do cycling instead!
For around 10 years or so, I have fancied cycling from Newcastle (my current home) to Maryport (where I am from, aka the other home), which the 72 cycle route takes me all the way, which I have decided to do this cycle route, and split in over 4 days, starting at 3pm on Thursday 3rd October, finishing in Maryport for around 5pm on Sunday 6th October.
Here is how the route is broken down...
Day 1 (Thu 3rd Oct) - Newcastle (Cycle Hub) to Prudhoe (Transport Interchange)
Day 2 (Fri 4th Oct) - Prudhoe (Transport Interchange) to Hadrian's Wall (Twice Brewed Inn)
Day 3 (Sat 5th Oct) - Hadrian's Wall (Twice Brewed Inn) - Carlisle (Sands Centre)
Day 4 (Sun 6th Oct) - Carlisle (Sands Centre) - Maryport (Christ Church / Harbour)
Any donations will be given to Children Cancer North, which works on both research into children cancers in the North East and Cumbria, as well as giving money to the children on the wards, both are close to my heart, as I was that kid 25 years ago.
Also, feel free to join me at the start, end, or points on route, or even bike with me on some of the journey if you fancy it!
