For £25 per month you can sponsor a child This is a fantastic way of supporting the educational needs of the pupils at Awutu Winton School. By the end of 2024 we are looking to have sponsorship for the majority of the 500 pupils at the school. You can sign up on justgiving.com to become a sponsor for a monthly contribution of £25 (£300 per annum). Each sponsor will be allocated one of our current students who will write to you via EDP UK at least twice a year, with an update on their progress at the school. We now have just under 80 students sponsored and with a population of 520 this year we still have some way to go! As an indication of the expenses involved in running the school, each student costs around £300 a year to finance in terms of the infrastructure and overheads; this excludes the general cost of staffing as the majority of the teachers and ancillary staff are financed by the Government, as part of our joint venture. This means we have to find around £150,000 each year just to keep the school going.

Story

Our Story

This summer, we feel incredibly lucky to be spending two weeks in Ghana, where we’ll be staying in Awutu Winton School, near Accra, and seeing first-hand what education and lifestyles look like in a very different environment.

Education is something many of us take for granted, but it isn’t as easily accessible for others. As we’ve learned more about the challenges students face, we’ve felt motivated to help. We also recognise that education and community go hand in hand — by supporting both, we can make a more lasting difference.

That’s why we’ve set ourselves a challenge: to raise £1,000 to support the school, the students at Awutu Winton, and the local community. We want to help more young people access the education they deserve, while also contributing to improvements that can benefit families and everyday life in the area.

Our Challenge

On the 8th of April we’ll be taking on a coastal walking challenge, covering over 26 miles in under 12 hours.

Our route will take us:

From Canford School to Studland

From Studland to Hengistbury Head

Finishing with a final steep incline to the end.

It will be a demanding day, but nothing compared to the daily challenges many people face just to access education and essential resources like clean water and electricity.

Where Your Donations Go

All money raised will go directly towards supporting the school in Ghana. Your donations will help provide:

School fees for students who might otherwise miss out.

Essential items like books, uniforms, and learning materials.

Meals, so students can focus on thriving at school rather than worrying about when their next meal will be.

Support for the local community.

Thank You

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and support us.

We feel incredibly grateful for every contribution. By supporting us, you’re not just helping us complete a challenge, you’re helping to give students opportunities that many of us are lucky enough to have every day.

Every donation, no matter the size, will have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of the people we meet this summer.

Every step we take will be for them, and made possible by you.

Thank you for being part of our journey!

Love from Julide and Elsa xxx
