Story

On 30 August 2026, I’ll be taking on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge — 24 miles, three mountains, 5000ft of ascent and all in under 12 hours. But this challenge isn’t really about the miles for me, it’s about something far more important.

I’m doing it to raise money for St Bede’s Hospice in Gateshead, the place that cared for my Dad in the final weeks of his life.

St Bede’s is quiet, gentle, compassionate, and staffed by people who seem more like angels than nurses. They didn’t just look after my Dad; they looked after us as a family. They held us up when we were breaking. They gave us comfort when there were no words left. They made sure Dad’s final days were peaceful, dignified and surrounded by love.

And yet, hospices like St Bede’s are not funded by the NHS. They rely on donations to keep their doors open. This is so sad to me — that places offering the most humane, tender care imaginable have to fight for funding.

So this walk is my way of giving something back.

Every step up Pen‑y‑Ghent, Whernside, Ingleborough and every mile in between will be for them — for the doctors and nurses who cared for Dad, the staff who supported us with compassion, and for every family who will one day need the same kindness.

The challenge falls just days before my Dads 2 year memoriam and I know he will be with me all the way on the route. This challenge is a way of keeping his memory alive — not just for me, but for everyone who knew and loved him. A way of saying: you mattered, and you always will.

If you’re able to donate, you’ll be helping St Bede’s continue their incredible work. You’ll be helping another family feel the same comfort we did. And you’ll be honouring my Dad in the most meaningful way.

Thank you, truly, for reading, supporting, donating, or sharing. It means more than I can say.

In loving memory of the most wonderful Husband, Dad and Grandad. We love and miss him everyday. X
