Story

Three Peaks Challenge & Devon Coast to Coast Cycle for Mesothelioma UK

Three Peaks Challenge

On May 3rd, Charlie, Keeks, Steve & Oli (the elite team of tadpoles and a Conibear) will be taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge on behalf of Mesothelioma UK.

For those that don't know, the Three Peaks includes driving between and climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, all within 24 hours. Special thank you to Lou for being our designated driver! Coffee pending... And to Amy, Arlo and little George for all of the moral support!

We’re doing this in honour of our amazing mum, Clare. Earlier this year she was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma – a rare, incurable cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. It’s a disease most people have heard of but know very little about. We want to help change that.

Everyone who knows mum knows that she is a radiator of warmth and positivity. Mesothelioma is tough, relentless and unfair - but Mum is tougher. She faces this with the kind of strength, humour and resolve that only she could muster!!

So here we are, training hard (or about to be..) and ready to face the challenge.

The world record for 3 Peaks was 11 hours 56 minutes... Chance? No. But we love to dream big. And if aiming for a world record helps us complete this in 24 hours, we’re all for it. After all, Mum has set the bar pretty high in the bravery department, so the least we can do is set ourselves a wildly delusional target.

By supporting Mesothelioma UK, you’ll be helping fund vital research, specialist nursing, and support for patients and families navigating something no one should have to go through alone. Your donation – big or small – genuinely makes a difference.

So please, if you can, support our climb. Donate. Share. Send blister plasters. Whatever you can manage, we’ll be grateful.

Thank you for helping us raise awareness, raise funds, and hopefully raise ourselves to the summits without too many tears.

Here’s to you Mum. Our reason, our inspiration, and the woman we’ll be thinking of with every steep and slightly regrettable step.

Coast to Coast Cycle

As part of the fundraising challenge, Charlie and Dad will also be taking on a brutal cycle together this summer. A few years ago, they had planned to complete the Devon Coast to Coast ride over two days, but torrential rain defeated them. This time, they are going back to finish what they started — and raising the stakes.

This summer they will ride the entire route in one long day: Minehead to Shaldon via Exmoor and Dartmoor. That’s 110 miles and over 10,000 feet of climbing — a combination far beyond anything either of them has ever attempted before.

As Dad puts it, it feels right to share a modicum of Mum’s excruciating pain, even if only for one day.
