Story

Our story

Here in the UK we all take the right to a good education for granted, but this is very different in other countries, such as Ghana.

Once hearing we were successful in gaining places this summer to visit Awutu Winton School in Accra, the capital city of Ghana, we took an in depth look at what we are doing and how we can make the greatest positive impact for the school.

After looking into the Awutu Winton School (more details in the link below), we learned the daily struggles and fights many pupils have to undertake in order to access the right to an education. We felt inspired to join that challenge and help raise money to help combat some of those hurdles, enabling more children to have the opportunity of a secondary education.

Awutu Winton is one of a few non-fee-paying schools in Ghana offering secondary education and we wish to raise money to give directly to the school on our visit. To raise money for the school, we have set ourselves a personal challenge together to complete the Three Peaks in 24 hours. We have been training hard.

All monies raised will go directly to the Awutu Winton School and we are self funding the Three Peaks Challenge.

So, what is the ‘Three Peaks in 24 hrs’ Challenge?

After travelling up to Scotland on Friday, 2nd of May, we will begin our Challenge at 8:30 am on Saturday May 3rd and, over the following 24 hours, we will climb the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales, walking a total of 23 miles and ascending around 3000 metres.

Ben Nevis (Scotland) - Starting at 8.30 am will we begin our 5-mile trek ascending 1200 metres, possibly through extreme weather, to the summit of Ben Nevis (the highest point in the UK) arriving at the top by approximately 11.30am. Then, after descending another 5 miles, we will return to base around 13.30 and travel in a mini bus to Scafell Pike in England.

Scafell Pike (England) – After our 6-hour drive from Ben Nevis, we will arrive at Scafell Pike in the Lake District around 20.30. We will then trek 3 miles and ascend 1000 metres with head torches, summiting at approximately 23.00. We will then descend another 3 miles and return to the base around 1.00 AM and depart for Snowdonia.

Snowdonia (Wales) - After travelling around 3.5 hours (and trying to get some sleep) we will arrive at 4.30 am beneath Snowdonia and trek 3.5 miles (still with head torches) ascending 1080 metres and Summit at 8.30 AM, completing the challenge all in 24hrs.

We would greatly appreciate any donations for our Challenge, which will be donated to Awutu Winton School:

What will your donations be used for?

✅ School fees for students who otherwise would struggle to afford the right to a good education.

✅ Books, uniforms, and learning materials

✅ Meals, so students can focus on their studies without worrying about hunger

Thank you for joining us,

All the best,

Bertie, Fred and Felix. xx
