Story
Born in 2023, Gloucester Saxons Hoopfest exists for more than basketball. It exists to honour a life, to unite a community, and to show young players what the game can truly stand for. Hosted in memory of Joe Grainger, Hoopfest celebrates everything Joe believed in – passion, kindness, positivity, and the power of basketball to bring people together. This is more than a tournament. It is a festival of joy, belonging, and shared purpose. A place where young players feel safe, welcomed, and inspired. A place where the game is played with heart, respect, and pride.
Joe’s love for basketball was infectious. His impact went far beyond the court. Hoopfest carries that spirit forward – creating moments, memories, and connections that last far longer than the weekend. All funds raised are donated to Leukaemia UK, supporting vital research, treatment, and families affected by leukaemia. By taking part, every player becomes part of something bigger – proving that the sport can change lives far beyond the court. We play for fun. We play for each other. We play for something bigger. This is basketball the way Joe would have wanted it. In Memory of Joe Grainger. Forever part of our game. Forever part of our community. This is how his legacy lives on.
