Story

Unfortunately every family is touched by cancer at some point and if you are, chances are you will come into contact with the Irish Cancer Society.

Mam was diagnosed with lung cancer in early September 2021. Mam responded well to treatment initially but unfortunately the cancer spread and she lost her battle on 28 December 2022. It was in those final 2 weeks at home that the night nurses from the Irish Cancer Society came to our aid. The nurses provided professional and compassionate support over Mam’s final days. They answered the call over the Christmas period and ensured we could get some rest to keep the show on the road. It was Mam’s wish to remain at home and the Irish Cancer Society, together with the community team from Marymount Hospice and our family and friends ensured that could happen. Mam herself was a nurse and we had cared for our Dad at home when he became ill in 1996 until he passed away in February 2002.

I am running 4 marathons in 2024 in (hopefully) under 4 hours. I started this journey in Tokyo on 3 March (PB in 3:22), followed by London on 21 April (3:32). I will be going to Chicago on 13 October and ending in Dublin on 27 October. I am funding the marathons and all associated expenses so all money raised here will go towards funding the Nursing Services.

I would be incredibly grateful if you could spare a few euros for the Nursing Services offered by the Irish Cancer Society.
