Story
The Challenge
Starting today, January 1st, 2026, I am committing to running at least 5km every single day for the entire year. Whether it’s rain or snow, I will be hitting the pavement for 365 consecutive days to raise funds for Barnardo’s.
The Side Quests:
Along the way, I’ll be taking on some "side quests," including 10ks, half marathon and marathon races along with some PB attempts to keep things interesting.
Why I’m Doing It
2026 is a massive year for our family. My wife and I currently have our daughter in our care, and this is the year we will officially and legally adopt her. She has already changed our lives in ways we never imagined and she is the inspiration behind every step I’ll run this year.
Our journey has opened our eyes to the reality of the care system. While we are so lucky to have our daughter home with us, we know there are so many children still waiting for the love, stability, and support they deserve. No child should ever have to navigate neglect or abuse.
The Charity
I’ve chosen to support Barnardo’s because they are a lifeline for the UK’s most vulnerable children. From supporting those in the care system to helping families in crisis, Barnardo’s works to ensure that every child has a chance at a bright future. I want to help them continue that work so that more children can find the safety and love our daughter has found with us.
My Daily Commitment to You
No doubt this won't be easy, but I am determined to see it through. To keep myself accountable and to bring you along on the journey, I will post an update every single day. Whether it’s a screenshot of my route or a sweaty post-run selfie, you’ll see the progress of all 1,825+ kilometres.
The Rules
The Daily Goal: A minimum of 5km (3.1 miles) every single day.
The Window: Must be completed between 00:00 and 23:59. No "doubling up" or anything like that for a missed run today.
The Method: Run or jog is the priority. Power-walking is the backup if absolutely essential for recovery (i.e. post half marathon or injury).
The Injury Pivot: If a leg injury prevents running, I pivot to a 1.25km swim. Same cardio effort, zero impact, streak stays alive.
The Sick Rule: "Above the neck" (cold/sniffles) = I run. "Below the neck" (fever/flu) = I rest and I either make it up when safe to do so or I bring in a substitute to run on my behalf.
Accountability: All miles tracked via GPS and shared daily.
How You Can Help
If you are able to donate, please know that every penny goes toward helping a child in need. If you can’t donate, simply sharing this page would mean the world to me.
Thank you for supporting the incredible work of Barnardo’s.
