Story
Hi everyone,
My name is Amy and I am a leader, Barn Owl, at the 5th Eaton Socon Brownies pack in St Neots. My mission is to get the children involved in a host of activities to not only advance their skills but also their impact in the community.
As a group we have already learnt some First Aid skills, made flags about the four counties the East Anglian Air Ambulance supports and played helicopter games. We are going to undergo CPR training, as I believe everybody should know this lifesaving skill, and also complete some crafty activities - for example, designing a new uniform or a helicopter for 50 years time. The girls are really enthusiastic about taking part in this challenge as they feel as though they are helping their community - it is an added bonus that there is a badge to go alongside!
We are looking to raise money for the charity and are therefore going to be completing some fundraising activities. As a group we have not yet decided what they will be but there are many ideas flying about such as a sponsored walk, a bake sale and even a sponsored silence (I can't wait to see how long that lasts!).
But why East Anglian Air Ambulance?
Every year approximately 12,000 people suffer a cardiac arrest in the East of England. Only about 40% of those receive any form of bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before the arrival of the emergency services. Less than 20% have a defibrillator deployed before emergency services arrive.
Whatever our age, we all have our part to play in accident prevention and understanding how to help others in a medical emergency. That is why we as a group can't wait to keep challenging ourselves and who knows maybe one day we will save someone's life.
