Story
So this year I am turning 60, this is a time when my amazing family would be scratching their heads as to what to buy me as a birthday present however it is also a poignant reminder that the true value of life lies in the love and kindness we share with others so, I am requesting no gifts and wish to donate my birthday to Shelter instead. In addition to this and of course for all you lovely people who didn’t know I have this milestone birthday I am going to attempt to swim 60km by the time I am 60 (starting 1 Sep to 15th Dec); this means committing to swim around 3900 metres per week or 156 lengths every 7 days. The choice to couple this swimming goal is that homelessness is an issue that demands our attention especially with the cost of living crisis, mental health and abusive home environments. These funds raised will provide essential resources, shelter and support to those who are often invisible to society, buying the odd bit of food for someone on the street when I'm out doesn't feel enough, maybe this will help just a little more and support those without a place to call “home”.
