Story
In September 2025, I lost my dad when he took his own life. It came as a huge shock to all of us. There are no words that can really explain what that’s done to my family and me, but what I do know is that he was deeply loved, and he is missed every single day.
Since then, we’ve been trying to pick up the pieces, trying to understand, and trying to learn how to carry his memory while also learning how to live without him. It’s been an incredibly painful and at times frightening journey, but we’ve been lucky to have support around us that has helped us keep going.
My dad was passionate about everything he did. He loved football, supporting Arsenal and Rangers, he loved his work in property, and most of all he loved his family and the people closest to him. He also had places that meant something to him, places full of memories that I now hold onto even more tightly.
To honour him, on July 4th I’m running 61 kilometres from East Herts Golf Club, where he played, to the Emirates Stadium, home of The Arsenal, stopping off at some of his favourite places along the way, the River Lea where he used to fish with my grandad and me, Hackney Marshes where he played football as a boy, and places that are part of his story.
Friends and people who loved Steve are joining in for different parts of the run and different distances too, which means a lot, it really feels like we’re all doing this together for him.
This run is for my dad. It’s my way of remembering him, and trying to turn something so painful into something that might help someone else.
Along the way, I want to raise awareness for mental health, and for how devastating suicide is for the families left behind. I also want to remind people that it’s ok to talk, and it’s ok to reach out when things get too much, no one should ever feel alone in it.
My goal is to raise £5,000 in his memory, supporting Mindflow. Every donation, no matter the size, really does help.
This is for you dad. And for anyone still here, still fighting, and still needing to be heard.
