Story
Seven marathons. Seven consecutive days. One purpose.
This challenge isn’t about chasing times or medals, it’s about raising awareness, funds, and support for those affected by thyroid cancer, in partnership with Butterfly Thyroid Cancer Trust.
Thyroid cancer is often overlooked, misunderstood, and underfunded, yet it affects thousands of individuals and families across the UK every year. Butterfly provides vital support, education, and advocacy for patients and their loved ones, and this challenge is my way of giving something back.
At the heart of this challenge is Steve. He has known my parents since they were teenagers and has been part of my family for as long as I can remember, truly family in every sense of the word. Steve is also a runner himself, having completed multiple marathons over the years, including the London Marathon. This challenge feels especially meaningful knowing the sport has been such a big part of his life.
Steve is currently living with anaplastic thyroid cancer, an extremely rare and aggressive form of thyroid cancer. It is fast-moving, difficult to treat, and often poorly understood, which makes awareness, research, and specialist support even more critical.
The Challenge Route
Over seven days, I’ll be running a full marathon each day across some of the most challenging and beautiful parts of the UK:
* Day 1: Cardiff
* Day 2: The Gower
* Day 3: Brecon
* Day 4: Bristol or Bath
* Day 5: Dartmoor
* Day 6: Devon Coast
* Day 7: Finishing at Steve and Sue’s home
Each run represents another step towards greater awareness, support, and visibility for thyroid cancer, and finishing the final marathon with the people who inspired this challenge makes it incredibly special.
Running seven marathons in seven days will push me physically and mentally, but it is nothing compared to what so many people living with thyroid cancer face every day.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, helps fund the support, education, and awareness initiatives provided by Butterfly that genuinely change lives.
Thank you for supporting the cause, sharing this page, and helping shine a light on a cancer that too often goes unseen. 💛
