Story

Update: We did it!! Battling nerves and climbing ever higher all 7 of us took to the skies on the zipwire and met our fundraising target for Shine. The 80th was celebrated in style - thank you so much to everyone who supported us with this event!

In August this year 7 of us are tackling the longest zip line in Europe. We’ll be speeding at 125mph 500ft above the ground over a whole mile to celebrate an 80th birthday and raise some money for a fantastic charity. One of us will be 80 and another one of us (me!) hates heights so this is a big challenge!

Shine was founded in 1966 (happy birthday Shine!) and has helped thousands of babies, children and adults living with spina bifida and hydrocephalus to live healthier, happier lives. These conditions are lifelong and can cause incontinence, mobility issues, pain, visual impairment and complex learning disabilities.

Shine is there for anyone affected by the conditions, for life. It supports people to manage their lives in areas including health (like managing pain, understanding options for surgery or adjusting to life with a shunt), housing, employment, education, finances and emotional wellbeing, and build robust support networks. This means they can get on with enjoying the things that really matter - family, careers, learning and leisure time.

I’ve worked for Shine for 5 years and over that time have seen first hand how the charity changes lives through working directly with people when they need help.

Please support our challenge - and help conquer my fear of heights! - by donating to Shine.

Thank you!

Alison, Rebecca, Geraint, Stephen and gang
