Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Tommy and I are doing a 10 mile sponsored walk from Lockerbie Delivery Office to Johnstonebridge Community Centre, which is part of Tommy’s postal route. We are holding a Family Fun Day after the walk. The walk will be on Sunday 27th August, leaving Lockerbie at 9am and the fun day event will be from 1-4pm.

I was diagnosed with primary breast cancer in 2020 and was very grateful to the NHS to be able to start treatment despite the world going into lockdown due to the pandemic. I had 16 months of treatment in Dumfries and Carlisle including surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy and hormone therapy. I was given the all clear in May 2021 then was delighted to be able to ring the bell to mark the end of active treatment two months later.

I had 19 months cancer free and had returned to work and was enjoying life once again, making memories with family and friends. Unfortunately in February 2023, I was told that the cancer had returned but this time it was stage 4 and incurable, the news was absolutely devastating and I was heartbroken for my children, family and friends. I am fortunate that it is treatable and can only hope for more medical breakthroughs which will allow me more precious time. In the meantime, I have returned to my much-loved job at Wallace Hall Primary in an attempt to get back to some kind of normality. My treatment schedule is very thorough and will be life-long now, I am so grateful to the staff at DGRI oncology unit for the care and support they have given me.

Research into breast cancer is absolutely vital to ensure survival rates improve and kinder treatments are discovered, so I am asking for any donation, no matter how small, to help fund this important work.
