Every week in the UK, around two families are told their child has neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer. We fund leading research projects to deliver new, effective and kinder treatments for children with neuroblastoma. With your help we can save more young lives.

Story

A team of 12 of us will be braving the Thames and taking part in the Great River Race on Saturday 16th September - a 22-mile rowing event which starts from Millwall and ends in Ham, Richmond. Split into 2 x 6 man boats we're positive we can achieve some record times!

We've decided to stand by Neuroblastoma UK, a small national charity committed to eradicating neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer. This cause is particularly close to our hearts as they've directly aided one of our colleagues and their family.

Neuroblastoma is an uncommon childhood cancer affecting about 100 children annually in the UK. Its impact can be shattering, often proving resistant to existing treatments despite chemotherapy being a common approach. Predominantly afflicting children below the age of five, neuroblastoma can even manifest before birth. Remarkably, it stands as the second most prevalent solid tumor in childhood, trailing only behind brain tumors.

Unbelievably, neuroblastoma takes the lead as the most frequently occurring solid tumor in infants aged below one year. Nonetheless, it remains an underfunded area of study when compared to more widespread cancers like breast, lung, leukemia, and colon/rectal cancers. Although these conditions affect a higher number of individuals, securing millions in funding, only a minor fraction is directed towards combating this prevailing infant tumor. Astonishingly, neuroblastoma makes up approximately one-fifth (22%) of all cancers diagnosed in infants under one year.

Neuroblastoma UK achieves its mission by channeling resources into cutting-edge research initiatives aimed at developing innovative, more gentle, and effective treatments for young patients grappling with neuroblastoma.

The ripple effects of COVID-19 have cast a substantial financial shadow over fundraising endeavors. This jeopardizes the charity's ability to sustain ongoing research efforts. It's vital we extend our support now to ensure the continuity of their crucial research. Together, we can play a pivotal role in safeguarding the lives of our younger generation – so please do help us reach our target !!
