In Memory of Tom Knight

We are walking in memory of Tom, an amazing young boy who left us far too soon. His mum Lesley, a remarkable lady who works for the County Air Ambulance Trust HELP Appeal, is joining us on this walk, and she came up with the idea to call it 'A Knight to Remember.'

The HELP Appeal holds deep personal significance for Lesley. Her son Tom was airlifted by air ambulance to hospital after a severe injury. The helicopter had to land nearby because there was no hospital helipad—an experience Lesley will never forget. She shares:

"As you can imagine, a large crowd gathered to watch the air ambulance. It was the most harrowing experience anyone can go through. I didn't want them to see Tom being wheeled into the hospital. The swift operation of getting us there was marred by the fact we had to land on the road."

Tragically, the hospital staff were unable to save Tom due to the severity of his injuries. In the aftermath of this unimaginable loss, Lesley channelled her grief into action by fundraising for the County Air Ambulance Trust HELP Appeal, dedicating herself to its mission ever since.

Lesley explains: "This walk is about celebrating Tom's life and raising funds to ensure no one else has to experience what I went through."

Why Are Hospital Helipads Essential?

We all know how crucial the Golden Hour is in saving lives, especially for critically ill or injured patients. But clinical evidence shows that when an air ambulance has to land without a helipad, and the patient must be transferred by road ambulance, it increases risks due to the delays and the additional movement.
