Story
Every year I raise money from my global readership for a local cause. This year, it is for Great Rollright School. But really it's not for the school; it's for the children.
As an elementary school, it educates local children from the ages of 5 until 11. The objective is to create one single life-enhancing experience which will be aimed jointly at all 105 registered pupils of the school and in which they can all participate as one.
I am currently working closely with Michelle Hastings, the head teacher, and with her team to find something suitable and which will appeal to all the girls and boys, irrespective of their ages or backgrounds.
Great Rollright, the village in which I have lived for the past 21 years, sits in the Cotswolds, an area known to attract the rich and famous. (No, I was here long before it became quite so fashionable.) But it is also hard core agricultural and there are many more people of extremely humble means than there are multi-millionaires. It is this year's objective to give all of the kids one great and memorable experience which for some of those families might otherwise be beyond reach.
If there is to be money left over after the big day has been had, it is my intention that it should be passed on to one of the two small charities established many years ago to benefit the poor of Great Rollright parish.
I hope you approve of my choice for this year's good causes and will as ever generously support them.
