A Platt is raising money for Making Sense CIO

Connecting vulnerable and diverse communities in North Wales with the arts through accessible, multi-sensory experiences

Story

I’ve signed up for a triathlon… slightly underprepared, but fully committed!

This challenge has become much more than just a personal goal. After attending a dementia awareness networking group, I felt truly inspired to raise money for an incredible charity called Making Sense CIO.

Making Sense is an artist-led charity on a mission to bring creativity and culture into the lives of everyone, including older adults living with dementia. They create beautifully themed memory boxes filled with objects from different decades, designed to unlock memories, spark conversation, and inspire moments of connection and reminiscence.

Someone once described dementia to me as being like shaking a bookcase... the books at the bottom (your earliest memories) stay in place, but the ones at the top fall everywhere, leaving things feeling confused and disorientated. These memory boxes feel like a way of gently putting some of those books back, helping people reconnect with moments that matter. It’s something I found incredibly moving (yes… I even shed a tear watching their videos!).

If you’d like to see the impact for yourself, you can watch their videos here:

This cause is also very close to home. My best friend’s mum, the wonderful Ruth, is living with dementia. She is an absolutely inspirational woman with the most positive outlook on life and can still drink most people under the table!

So here I am, taking on a triathlon (please wish me luck, especially for the swim, it’s definitely my weakest area!) to support this beautiful charity.

If you’re able to donate, even a small amount, it would mean so much. And if you’re local, I’d love some support on the day, maybe come and cheer me on… ideally after the swim!

Thank you so much 💛
