Story
On April 21, 2024, I will be running in the London Marathon, not just for personal achievement, but for a cause that resonates deeply with me. I am dedicating my marathon run to Karuna, an organization that embodies the spirit of compassion and change. Karuna tirelessly works to uplift the most marginalized communities in South Asia, transforming lives through education, gender equality, and sustainable livelihood initiatives. Their belief is profound yet simple: when one person's life improves, they can positively impact their community, and in turn, spark societal change.
For those of you who are uninitiated on caste, this article will shed some light on caste and the similarities and differences it has from race.
As I lace up my running shoes and take on the 26.2-mile challenge, I am also reminded of the story of Rohith Vemula, a Dalit PhD scholar whose life was tragically cut short. His words, "My birth is my fatal accident," echo the harsh reality of caste-based discrimination that still plagues society. Karuna strives to eradicate such injustices. I am running for the resistance against oppression, discrimination and institutional violence and I want you to come along with me.
Your support can make a tangible difference. By contributing to my marathon run, you are not just cheering me on; you are bolstering Karuna's mission to foster change and hope in the lives of those who face adversity every day. Together, we can continue the fight for the oppressed and marginalized, and take a step closer to a world where equality and justice are not just ideals.
I am honored to run for Karuna and grateful for any donation you can make to support this vital cause
