Story

What did we do??

Local residents of Eye Village brought back the

A-Z pub crawl charity fundraising event from over 14 years ago since they last did it for Sue Ryder Hospice. On Saturdays outing across Peterborough, they set out to raise money for Cancer Support UK. The fundraising event of an A-Z pub crawl tasked 13 family & friends with having an alcoholic drink in each pub beginning with each letter of the alphabet. With just two letters unaccounted for across Peterborough, we started at “Katie’s Bar” and ended at “Zee Blue Boar” both in Eye Village. The rest of the establishments we visited were:

A The Abbey, Crowland

B Black Bull,Deeping

C Charters, Peterborough

D Drapers, Peterborough

E Ex Servicemen Club, Thorney

F Falcon, Whittlesey

G George & Angel, Crowland

H Harrier, Gunthorpe

I Cock Inn, Werrington

J JD Spoons, Whittlesey

K Katie’s Bar – Eye Community Centre

L Lime Tree, Walton

M Moorhen, Hampton

N New Crown, Whittlesey

O Ostrich, Peterborough

P Peacock, Peterborough

Q Queens Head, Peterborough

R Railway, Whittlesey

S Stage, Deeping

T Three Horseshoes, Werrington

U Under the Eagle, Parnwell

V Vine, Deeping

W Whittle Way, Stanground

X Cross Keys, Woodston

Y Yard of Ale, Woodston

Z Zee Blue Boar, Eye

With two additions added in of Turtle Bay, Peterborough & Waterton Arms, Deeping.

All drinks on the day were fully funded by those completing the crawl.

Who are cancer support Uk??

Cancer Support UK are a charity that provide practical and emotional support to adults and children with cancer, both during and after treatment, across the UK. They supply Cancer Kits, Chemo Kits and Kids' Kits free of charge during treatment and our Cancer Coach programme helps to resume life after cancer when treatment ends.

Why did we do it?

The motivation for wanting to raise funds fell close to home for those completely the challenge after a young family/friend was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer at the age of 27. It was made very apparent that cancer can get anyone & so we set out planning the return of the crawl to raise money to support others In their time of need. We set out to raise £1000 & thanks to alot of people’s generosity we have raised a whopping £3564 before gift aid so far. This money will go a long way in supporting others with Cancer. Cancer Support UK is a unique service that helps deal with processing what your new life with and after cancer looks like - something essential to being able to get through it all!
