Story
On Sunday 12th July 2026 I will be swimming, cycling and running in the Croyde Ocean Triathlon (25km in total) down in Devon - a notoriously "stunning but savage" course.
Background
I am incredibly unfit. It's been nine years since my last swimming gala for Leyland Barracudas and I have built up a reputation for refusing to even do the warm-up run at lacrosse (where I spend most of my time standing in goal), let alone any other cardio activity.
However, if my friends can do a triathlon then so can I, and it would be good to earn some money for charity along the way. Anyone who knows me knows this is a massive challenge but I'm committed to completing it. You can follow my training on Strava: https://www.strava.com/athletes/200454952
The Causes
The money raised will be split equally between two charities: Crohn's and Colitis UK (my choice) and Earth Action North Devon (organiser's choice).
Crohn's and Colitis UK (Reg No: 1117148) support over 500,000 people in the UK suffering from Crohn's Disease and/or Ulcerative Colitis, both of which are lifelong inflammatory bowel conditions with (currently) no cure. These conditions are poorly understood, can be debilitating and symptoms vary dramatically from person to person. The charity provides care and advice to patients and their families, and supports state-of-the-art research to develop new medications.
Earth Action North Devon is a local charity (Reg No: 1182464) on a mission to protect and improve our environment through community action. Through education, events, campaigns and networks, today they’re dedicated to inspiring reconnection with nature, driving sustainable behaviour change and accelerating environmental action across North Devon to foster a healthier relationship between people and the natural world.
Any donation, big or small, is sincerely appreciated. Thank you in advance for your support and contribution to this journey :)
