Story
In April 2025 I did something I never thought I would do… I ran the Brighton Marathon in honour of my Dad who passed away in May 2024.
Two weeks later I was shocked to be diagnosed with AML leukaemia, my world was turned upside down and I was fighting for my life, with a prognosis that was not very encouraging.
The care I received from Bart’s was second to none, they supported me through 4 in hospital rounds of chemo each one a month long, they supported my family and genuinely always went above and beyond not just in terms of medical support but also in supporting my wellbeing.
I am still on maintaince chemo but I am in remission, and I am running the Hackney Half marathon to raise money for Bart’s charity, I am doing this to show that even with AML you can do anything you set your mind to and to help Bart’s continue to do the fantastic work they are doing in terms of cutting edge research and innovation.
I am lucky in that I have been able to return to normal life thanks to targeted gene therapy, many mutations unfortunately do not have such therapy available, with Bart’s continued research, this will hopefully be possible in the future.
