We support people in the north of Scotland who are affected by cancer or a blood disorder. Working hand-in-glove with the NHS, we take care of the ‘big little things’, and we fund cutting-edge equipment and research. Every penny makes an impact as our operating costs are covered by Balmoral Group.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Never made the photo shoot but will certainly make the stage.

I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in August last year with very few symptoms. This obviously was a right shock to me and my family and didn’t really know what to expect over the coming months ahead.

The operation to remove my prostate was carried out by the end of September at ARI and all I can say is “We are so lucky to have a brilliant NHS”.

After the operation the hard work to get better started.

I lost my confidence in going out even if it was just a shopping trip to B&Q and during this time I hit pretty low times. My last two blood tests have came back showing the cancer is non detectable which I am extremely happy about and hope further test during the years ahead will remain the same.

To be honest if it wasn’t for my wife (Marie) I really don’t think I would have got back to my usual self, she got me moving again and brought me out of the dark place I was in along with all our friends.

So my family and friends have nominated me at the ripe old age of 53 to take part as a Model in Brave 2025 on the 8th & 9th May. I’m going to strut my stuff and give it all on stage to raise as much funds as possible and to get awareness out there.

I am not fully recovered as yet but I’m sure I will get there in time and be back to my normal happy self one day soon.

Prostate Cancer is catching to many men out and still the only major cancer without a national screening program.
