Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am raising money for Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH) by running and hiking 34,000 ft of elevation throughout January and February 2026. I want to continue to raise awareness of mental health issues, highlight the work that SAMH do, and undertake a personal challenge that will give me a goal to work for in what can be the hardest months of the year.

I originally thought of aiming for the height of Mount Everest (29,032 ft), but then I thought, why not add just a little extra (!) and make it a round 34, 000 to tie in with my 34th birthday in February.

Like so many others I have struggled with my mental health throughout periods of my life. For me, this manifests as anxiety that can be overwhelming and exhausting. I know that I have family & friends who also live with their own mental health struggles.

Although it's often difficult to get started when I'm feeling bad, I have found that getting outside and going for a walk or a run makes me feel lighter and more energised. I love being out in the Scottish hills, and being out in the fresh air helps me to 'reset' my mind.

Will this be challenge be painful? Yes. Will I regret it by the first hill? Probably. Will my knees have aged 10 years by the end? Highly likely. However if this challenge encourages anyone to try getting out for a walk, a run, or just to spend some time in nature to find some relief for their mind, I’d be really glad.
