Story
London marathon 2025 … I was ready … I had done the work it was set to be an amazing day.
At 35km the lights went out. I have no idea what actually happened but when I came round I was in a tent covered in ice and surrounded by many concerned but friendly faces.
I was terrified I didn’t know who I was, where I was or what I was doing there ? I didn’t know my name couldn’t recall a single scrap of information about myself.
The amazing team at St John’s had taken care of me when I collapsed on the course. When they got me to the tent my body temperature was 42.
I didn’t appreciate how dangerously high that was until a few days after. The people in that tent managed to control my temperature and reassure me that I would be ok when I was starting to panic. They couldn’t have done more, absolute earth angels all of them and I owe them so much ….. so so much.
I as a runner go to many events and never gave it much thought that they were in attendance I never thought I would need them. I am sure you have been to concerts or sporting events etc and perhaps seen them but never given it much thought ?
They are volunteers… they don’t get paid they do the training and they save lives and on a voluntary basis … how amazing is that. I will never take it for granted and when I run past St John’s at runs I now give them a clap and cheer as I go by because my word do they deserve it.
It’s my privilege to have been picked to run the London 2026 marathon for this incredible organisation and not only that I am running The Great North Run and the Athens Marathon as part of my fundraising.
Please help me help St John’s who I am forever greatful to
London Marathon 2026 this time it’s personal
