Abbie and Leo’s fundraiser for The LUNA Project

Great North Run 5k · 6 September 2024
I am running the Great North Run 5k with my friend, Leo. We met at the Newcastle University Wheelchair Basketball Club.
We are raising money for the LUNA Project, which I am a trustee for. The LUNA Project is a charity that seeks to support and raise awareness of young people with chronic illnesses, disabilities, and long-term health conditions. It is a charity run by young disabled people for young disabled people. As young disabled people ourselves, we both know how important this work is. LUNA has positively impacted my life greatly, both before and after I became a volunteer and eventually a trustee. Additionally, with my help on behalf of LUNA, Leo has adapted LUNA’s Disability 101 presentation to provide basic disability training to Newcastle University Staff. Donations will help fund LUNA to be able to continue important work like this.
This time 2 years ago, I shaved my head to raise money for LUNA. This 5k will be just as big a feat! We both have never raced in our wheelchairs before and have to contend with our health conditions impacting our performance. But we are both determined to complete the 5k, no matter how long it takes.
