Story
I started volunteering for the Highlands and Islands Blood Bikes around a year ago. To be honest, it was something kind of fun to do in my spare time and a chance to ride cool bikes to nice places. Well I had no earthly idea what a lot of good the charity do. It’s overwhelming to receive some of the feedback I do from medical professionals. It would make you cry! They mostly are just so grateful for the service and they often let you know, if they’re rural, that we are a lifeline to them. Whether we’re transporting whole blood, blood samples, medication and (coming soon) baby milk, it’s a vital service for our sparsely populated land. There are guys riding from Caithness, Oban, Glasgow or Aberdeen to or from Inverness every day - and not just in the best of weather conditions. Any help would be greatly appreciated for the coffers but really I want to spread the word about this little known, completely volunteer run, first class charity.
