Story
In July 2023 I travelled to a small town called Mkuranga in Tanzania where I volunteered for a month at ‘Malaika Kids’, a charity focused on giving orphaned and vulnerable children a future. Malaika provides a home and a family structure within the Children’s Village where local women volunteer as mothers, caring and supporting each family of ten children. While most of the children attend the local schools, some children with additional needs remain at the Children’s Village. During my time at Malaika, I worked closely with these children helping them with their reading, writing and basic maths. In the evening time when the children returned from school, I would support and help with their homework.
Malaika relies entirely on donations and fundraising so without it, Malaika wouldn’t be able to do the amazing work they do and the children would not be given the hope of a future. While at Malaika, I saw first hand the direct impact donations have on the children, from enhancing their education to ensuring each child has adequate food and water.
As a result of seeing the challenges posed to Malaika I have decided to set up a fundraising challenge. Sport is another important part of the children’s daily life so in an effort to raise funds and awareness of Malaika I have decided to run 150km throughout the month of December. All funds raised will go directly to Malaika with every donation positively impacting the children and their future.
