Story
On the 28th September I will be running 10k together with a group of amazing women who know the heartache of miscarriage and baby loss. We are raising funds for The Worst Girl Gang Ever Foundation (TWGGEF), an incredible charity which offers invaluable support and resources for women and their families as they navigate this devastating and all too often isolating experience.
At a time when I've been learning to live with and integrate the grief of losing our much loved and wanted little one's during pregnancies, through TWGGEF I have found support, community and a safe haven in a world which can feel so alien and complicated to navigate. After our 5th unexplained miscarriage (our 3rd in a row since having our wonderful daughter in 2021), I was beginning to feel there was no-where for me to turn. Despite having incredible friends and family around us, I struggled with feeling alone in my grief. I was starting to feel increasingly isolated in experiencing so many losses and found it especially hard to find support that felt relevant to parenting a living child while navigating recurrent loss.
I had been a member of TWGGEF before, but financial constraints caused by career changes I made as a result of our experiences meant I needed to cancel my membership. However, now that TWGGEF have become a charity, they are able to offer their membership to ALL those who need it without finances being a barrier to access support. Knowing I can reach out at any time day or night on the especially tough days and receive love, empathy and a bit of cheerleading back from these amazing women, means everything to me during this time.
I'm hoping to raise funds so that TWGGEF can continue to offer crucial resources and so that no family ever has to go through the agonising experience of loss and be sent out into the world empty handed without specialised community, resources and support around them.
Thank you TWGGEF and all our friends, family and community who have showed us love and kindness throughout. We are very grateful :)
