Story
Rotaract Club of Aberdeen is running our 2nd cycling fundraiser this year! We are fundraising in aid of Rotary Club of St Fittick International Committee's project in Sierra Leone to sponsor a paediatric oxygen concentrator for the Children's Cottage Hospital in Freetown.
Background:
At the start of March 2026, an abandoned, severely malnourised baby was found by a member of Sisterland (twin charity in Sierra Leone). The baby had to be brought to the hospital for further assessment and treatment. However, when baby was struggling to breathe they were told that there were no oxygen system set up in the hospital. It was also hightlighted that three babies had died that same morning due to the lack of oxygen support. The baby is currently stabilised and receiving treatment under the care of Mariamma who is a member of Sisterland Charity in Sierra Leone and Rotary Club of Aberdeen St Fittck.
The International Committee is currently in touch with a Paediatric Consultant in the Children's Hospital for ongoing planning of this project. We are joining together to raise money to purchase an oxygen concentrator for the paediatric ward at Children’s Cottage Hospital Freetown costing in the region of £1,200 to £2,000.
