Story
Hey there, Abi & Sam here!
On the 8th of June we have decided to take on the challenge and climb Snowdon, raising money for MEN WHO TALK.
For a while now we have been thinking of ways we can raise money for MWT – the charity Sam founded in 2022, and we thought what better way to raise some cash than to drag ourselves up a mountain! Both of us have our own reasons for wanting to raise some money for men’s mental health, whether that be personal or professional reasons.
The idea of climbing Snowdon was all Abi’s (Sam would never willingly suggest that much physical activity!), so she is entirely to blame for how insufferable we will be around fundraising! On a serious note, it means a huge amount to both of us to raise money for MWT, and as a small charity every penny really does make a huge difference!
Below is some info about MWT, who they are, what they do and why they do it – please do have a read and support us if you can!
Thanks
Abi & Sam
“Men Who Talk was founded in January 2022, and is a registered charity offering less intensive spaces for men based in the UK to connect, share, and support one another. What they do isn’t magic, nor is it complex, they simply give men the permission to talk and provide the space for them to feel safe and supported in doing so.
Since launching in 2022, MWT has directly helped create space for over 150 men to feel supported and heard, with many hundreds more supported via their website and social media channels. All of their services are free to access and run online, meaning they are truly a national service for all.
It is no secret that there is a crisis facing men with their mental health at the moment – one that has been centuries in the making. This crisis has created a culture where men are so often told it’s not “manly” to talk, and that the best way to solve their problems is to “suck it up”. The real-world impact of this culture is that suicide is the leading cause of death for men under the age of 50, and over 75% of registered suicides each year are male.
The time to talk is now, and MEN WHO TALK is passionate about creating spaces where men aren’t just trying to survive but are actively supported to thrive. Every £10 they receive helps keep a space open for a man to feel supported, but in reality, every penny received makes a huge difference.”
