In a moment of madness last December I signed myself up to ride 175 miles (282 km) to get from the school gates in London, to Paris, in 2 days. I hadn't appreciated the enormity of the task (first job was to buy a bike!) until I set out on my first training ride in -2 degrees adorned with 3 pairs of socks (which, it turns out, do not prevent your toes from freezing).

Multitudes of people have witnessed my path to using cleats with the best of the mortifying, slow-motion topples happening at the end of Parkrun in Richmond Park and at Box Hill on a sunny Sunday morning... Apparently it happens to everyone...

Anyway, the time is nearing to put the training to the test and on 7th June, I'll be one of 28 parents heading off to France, all in aid of excellent local causes. The Flying Seagull Project brings joy to underprivileged kids, ADHD Embrace gives support to parents and professionals looking after children with the condition and Moormead Pavilion Project will provide sporting facilities to the local community. The remainder will supply the school with some much needed extra funds.
