Tommy's funds medical research into the causes of premature birth, stillbirth and miscarriage. We’re dedicated to finding causes and treatments to save babies’ lives as well as providing trusted pregnancy and baby loss information and support.

Story

On 10th June 2024 we gave birth to our beautiful little boy Stanley Victor Tyrrell.

Sadly Stanley was born asleep at 39 + 4 weeks.

My pregnancy had been uncomplicated throughout, and we were counting down the days until our due date to find out if we would be a mummy and daddy to a baby boy or girl.

On 7th June our world came crashing down when I woke up to notice our baby wasn’t having their usual morning wriggle. At Jessops Hospital we were given the heart breaking news that our baby no longer had a heart beat.

I carried our baby for a further 48 hours whilst we waited to go back to hospital to be induced into labour. It was on 10th June after a 16 hour labour that we met our baby for the first time and found out we had a baby boy who we named Stanley.

The 2 midwives who supported us at Jessops to deliver Stanley were the most incredible women we have probably ever met. The most kind, compassionate and caring people who made us feel safe and loved under the most awful circumstances.

We loved every minute of the time we got to spend with our baby boy and this is time that we will both cherish forever. This is all down to the bereavement suite at Jessops Hospital giving us space to be a family until we said our final goodbye.

We are both in awe of how many of our family and friend’s hearts our little boy has touched, and feel totally blessed that although he isn’t here with us he will never be forgotten and will always be so loved.

In Stanley’s memory we would love to raise money for Tommy’s charity who fund research into miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth.

Tommy’s charity are also funding specialist Rainbow clinics across the UK for bereaved parents, for them to have access to enhanced antenatal care for any subsequent pregnancies so they can receive personalised care and support, which we think is absolutely wonderful.

We would love to turn our heartbreaking experience into something positive, and all of the love and positive energy we can’t give our baby we want to give to funding vital research to support other families to be able to go home with their baby, to start their journey how we’d hoped we would be starting ours as parents.

If by raising funds we can support research that hopefully stops other families suffering the agony we have suffered, then that will be our Stanley’s legacy and gives us comfort that this will be his little contribution to the world in saving the life of other babies.

Over the coming months we have plans to hold a fundraising day in our local park on 28th September, Sheffield 10k run on 29th September, a charity football match on 5th October and a 25km London walk on 26th October.

We also have a coast to coast tandem bike ride planned for early 2025 and potentially many more events to help raise funds all that we will keep updating on our just giving page.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and if you are able to donate to this special charity then thank you again as it means the world to us
