Story

Bubba

My Dad, affectionately known to many as 'Bubba', was diagnosed last year with a brain tumour that turned out to be a Glioblastoma (GBM4). This aggressive form of brain cancer, if left untreated, would mean a limited life expectancy of just 12-18 months. The treatment options available are limited and have remained unchanged in the UK for the last 40 years, offering only the possibility of extending life by mere months rather than years.

Bubba's spirit has always been filled with fun, laughter, and silliness. This vibrant energy has been a great tonic for all of us around him and for everyone who has had the pleasure of knowing him throughout his life, at basketball and meeting him even after his diagnosis.

Why basketball?

Abingdon Eagles Basketball Club is not just a team; it’s family. It includes both Bubba and my Mum in the 'Walking Basketball Team'. Their grandsons French and Rocco started their basketball journeys there and are part of the 'Forever Eagles', as well as their Dad Stuart, a dedicated coach to two juniors teams. Bubba loves being part of the Eagles family—from game days to tournaments and junior championships to overseas trips. He takes pride in every celebration that marks the club's history.

With the support of the Abingdon Eagles Foundation & Club and Coach Dan, we are excited to host an 'All Stars'

With the support of Abingdon Eagles Foundation & Club and club Coach Dan - also a Forever Eagle, together, we are hosting an exciting and fun 'All Stars' basketball showcase on June 14th, 2025. This event aims to bring the joy of basketball to our community while supporting a cause that is incredibly important.

Be Part of the Change

WE>ME and together, we can make an impact in the research of treatments and improve the outcome for those with a diagnosis in the future.

This event will therefore come under The Maynard Supporter Group, set up specifically to fund research into high-grade brain tumours through The Brain Tumour Charity.

Together, we can fight for a future where GBMs are no longer a death sentence. Thank you for standing with us.
