On 20th September 2024, Aboyne Academy pupils and staff are taking part in a whole school 17km sponsored walk. We will be using the new Aboyne to Glen Tanar link path, through the stunning Glen Tanar countryside, passing through Dinnet, and returning to school.

This year we are raising funds for one of our key partners, local charity HorseBack UK!

HorseBack UK inspires positive change, encourages confidence and self-esteem, and promotes recovery in an individual. Using horsemanship and outdoor activities, they deliver nationally accredited personal development and wellbeing programmes which offer participants new coping strategies, life skills and the tools to build resilience.

Working alongside Aboyne Academy and other local secondary schools they provide several programmes working directly with small groups of pupils with an emphasis on participation and personal development. Through this, pupils can achieve the SQA Level 4 Certificate in Personal Development Through Horsemanship.

HorseBack UK are now working specifically with Aboyne Academy on an exciting programme of pupil development to support pupils in building and strengthening their teamwork, resilience and communication skills. In session 2023-2024 all S1 pupils participated in training with Horseback UK. The pupil and parent feedback from these sessions was hugely positive.

Both HorseBack UK and the school would like to continue to develop their partnership and are hoping to provide further opportunities to support and develop pupils.
