Story
In May, I am joining a group of 14 to take on the Three Peaks Challenge, hiking the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales, over a 24 hour period. Although I do like a challenge, I think this is going to be the hardest one I’ve tackled so far, so to spur me on, I want to raise as much money as I can, in memory of my wonderful friend, Andrew Cohen.
Andrew died, aged 41, from a heart attack, while out running with friends in December 2017. He and I had been great friends for almost thirty years, speaking every day, holidaying together and, once we married and had our own families, living eight doors away from each other. Our daily lives were intertwined and life has never been quite the same, or quite as funny, without him.
If he knew that I was going to hike the Three Peaks, he would laugh out loud - physical activity was never really my thing! However, I’m more into it now and I want to do something that really challenges me, to raise as much money as possible for the British Heart Foundation, to help stop, in any way possible, other people losing their loved ones so tragically.
The BHF has helped to halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people still lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like you that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. For example, £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps, so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thank you!
