Ironman 70.3 Vilamoura · 3 April 2027

We are a group of experts in the field of sports medicine and orthopaedics offering education and training to reduce serious knee injuries in grassroots sports. We provide education via our website www.skippcharity.org and training via free, face-to-face training for sports coaches.

Story

At the start of this year, I couldn’t walk. Now, I’m training for one of the toughest endurance challenges there is: The Ironman.

On 10 January 2026, I underwent ACL reconstruction, lateral meniscus repair, and LET surgery. As someone who had always been active, suddenly needing help with even the simplest day-to-day tasks was incredibly difficult. I felt isolated, depressed, and unsure whether I would ever feel like myself again.

This injury changed my life.

Before my injury, I had dreams of progressing in football and seeing how far I could take the sport I loved. Having those dreams suddenly come to an end was incredibly difficult to accept. It made me realise how quickly an injury can change the path of a young athlete and take away something that means so much to them.

That’s what led me to Power Up To Play, a charity initiative founded by medical professionals to help prevent serious knee injuries in young people playing grassroots sport.

Power Up To Play trains coaches to use the PEP (Prevent injury, Enhance Performance) programme — a simple, 15-minute warm-up that is evidence-based and completely free. Their mission is to embed injury prevention into youth sport across the UK, helping more young athletes stay active, healthy, and doing what they love.

I’m taking on this Ironman not to prove anything to anyone else, but to show the world that an injury doesn’t have to define the rest of your life. If I can come back from something this difficult and keep moving forward, I hope my journey can inspire others to believe in their own recovery too.

I want to help prevent other aspiring athletes from experiencing what I did, and prove to the people going through the same battles that it is possible to comeback stronger.

I’m aiming to raise £5,000 for Power Up To Play, and I would be incredibly grateful for your support.

Please consider donating and helping protect the next generation of young athletes. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will help make sport safer and give more children the opportunity to stay active, healthy, and thrive.

Thank you for supporting me on this journey.
