Ben Ground is raising money for The Royal Anglian Regiment Charity

Viking Way Challenge 149 miles over five days · 13 May 2026

The Royal Anglian Regiment Charity helps serving and former members of the Royal Anglian Regiment and their dependants who are: in need, hardship or distress. It makes grants to individuals, units, veteran's groups and families to promote military efficiency, maintain cohesion & sense of belonging

Story

In July 2026, Lt Adam Bevan of the Royal Anglian Regiment will undertake the Viking Way Challenge: a self-supported 149-mile march from Barton-upon-Humber to Oakham, carrying 45lbs of military kit across five consecutive days, accompanied at various stages by Royal Anglian Regiment veterans.

This is not a leisure hike or organised endurance event with support vehicles and comfort stops. The route will be completed carrying all equipment required to live and operate each day, including shelter, food, water and military kit, while maintaining movement across the Lincolnshire Wolds, Cliff Villages and Rutland.

The challenge is being undertaken to raise funds for The Royal Anglian Regiment Charity (Registered Charity No. 1200816), which supports serving soldiers, veterans and their families who may be facing hardship, injury, transition difficulties or other welfare needs.

The Royal Anglian Regiment has served the country for generations, and while much attention is rightly focused on those currently deployed, there remains a continual need to support those who have served before them, as well as the families who stand behind them.

Every mile walked during this challenge represents that continued commitment.

Funds raised will contribute towards welfare support, recovery assistance, community engagement and wider charitable activity delivered through the Regiment Charity. Every donation, regardless of size, goes directly through the official JustGiving platform to the Charity itself.

Along the route, we will provide daily updates, photographs and SITREPs as the challenge progresses through the Regiment’s historic recruiting counties of Lincolnshire and Rutland.

Thank you for taking the time to support us. Your contribution genuinely makes a difference.
