As the leading Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) charity in the UK, we want to find effective treatments for DMD and end its devastating impact. We’re going further than anyone has before, and we’re doing it faster, because this generation of people living with DMD can’t wait.

Story

On Sunday 18 October, I’ll be taking on the Yorkshire Marathon to raise money for Duchenne UK.

This cause is particularly close to my heart as my partner’s nephew Cody was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy aged four. Seeing the impact that Duchenne has on him and his loved ones has inspired me to do what I can to help make a difference.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a devastating muscle-wasting disease and the most common and severe form of muscular dystrophy. Diagnosed in childhood, it mainly affects boys and has a profound impact on individuals and their families.

Started by families affected by the disease, Duchenne UK is the leading Duchenne muscular dystrophy charity in the UK. They connect the best researchers with industry, the NHS and families to advance and accelerate every stage of drug development, with the ultimate goal of ending Duchenne.

Training for and completing a marathon for the first time will be a challenge, but knowing I’m doing it for such an important and personal cause will make every mile worthwhile.

If you’re able to donate, no matter how big or small, I’d be incredibly grateful. Your support will help Duchenne UK continue its vital work supporting families, funding research and driving progress towards better treatments. Together, we will end Duchenne.
