Story
In June along with 60+ colleagues, I will be taking part in the second annual Arcadis charity cycle event raising funds for Teenage Cancer Trust.
The challenge is 1000 miles of winter/spring training cycling and 238 miles in 3 days cycling from Arcadis UK HQ in London to the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
Every day, seven young people aged 13-24 hear the words “you have cancer”. They will each need specialised nursing care and support to get them through it. We’re the only UK charity dedicated to meeting this vital need – so no young person faces cancer alone.
You only get one chance at being young, and those few crucial years will shape the person you become – your relationships and career, your confidence and wellbeing, and your ability to pursue your dreams. Cancer can throw all of that off track. Suddenly, your life’s been turned upside down. You’re scared, and living from one appointment to the next.
They make sure young people have someone in their corner right from the start. Their nurses and youth workers walk with young people from diagnosis through every step of their treatment, and for up to two years afterwards, so that they can recover and live life to the full.
Teenage Cancer Trust offers unique care and support, designed for and with young people. They fund specialised nurses, youth workers and hospital units in the NHS, so young people have dedicated staff and facilities to support them throughout treatment.
They run events for young people with cancer to help them regain independence and meet other young people going through something similar.
And they provide easy-to-understand information about every aspect of living with cancer as a young person.
If you are able to make even a small donation - thank you.
