This year marks the final Humber H.O.R.A.H. swim organised by Sara and Frank, and I feel incredibly honoured to be taking part once again.

It will be my fourth year swimming the Humber Estuary, one of the most challenging and dangerous stretches of water in the United Kingdom. Every year has tested me in different ways, and I know this year will be no different. The Humber has a way of humbling even the most prepared swimmers, but I am ready to face whatever it throws at me—both mentally and physically.

For me, this swim is about so much more than endurance.

The Humber Bridge is a place that holds deep personal meaning. There was a time in my life when I stood in a very dark place and considered ending my life there on more than one occasion. Looking back now, it is hard to believe how far I have come. What was once a symbol of despair has become a symbol of strength, resilience, and hope.

Sadly, not everyone finds their way through those darkest moments. Many lives have been lost around the bridge and within the estuary. When tragedy strikes, Humber Rescue is there. Their volunteers give their time, skills, and courage to help others, often in the most difficult circumstances imaginable. They provide an essential service to our community and rely heavily on donations to continue their life-saving work.

That is why I am taking on this challenge.

This year, I'm pushing myself even further. Alongside the Humber swim, I have also signed up to swim two separate sections of the River Trent, covering 12 kilometres each time. There will be tough days, cold water, aching muscles, and moments where I will have to dig deeper than ever before. But every stroke will be for a cause that means so much to me.

As I reach those final few hundred metres, tired and battling the current, hearing familiar voices cheering me on could be the difference between stopping and finding that one last push to reach the slipway.

This challenge is a reminder that no matter how dark life can become, there is always hope, there is always support, and there is always a reason to keep moving forward.
