I'm one of the lucky ones.

Eight years ago, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I had no symptoms and it came as a bit of an unwelcome surprise to me and the doctor who gave me the news! Thanks to the ever-wonderful NHS, my cancer (along with the offending prostate) was removed. I also had brilliant support from Prostate Cancer UK.

However, there are so many, including my lovely cousin David, who are not so lucky and prostate cancer kills far too many men.

I am forever grateful that my GP, the specialists and Prostate Cancer UK ensured that mine was caught early and done away with.

I have signed up for the PCUK's Grand Depart Classic which means I will be cycling about 120 miles on the first stage of this year's Tour de France to raise funds for the charity. We ride the route a few days before the professionals take it on - so I should be finished shortly before they start!

I will be riding as part of an exclusive team of two! Myself and the estimable Dave Erswell make up the membership of the Lycra-Clad Fools and we will be joining a host of other brave souls riding from Lille (and back) in June this year.
