Taking on the Green Man Ultra to fundraise; helping to restore and protect Avon's wildlife for generations to come.

Story

I'm running the Summer Green Man Ultra this August. It's a 72km route with 945m elevation circling my home city of Bristol. Details: https://www.greenmanultra.co.uk/the-summer-green-man-ultra/

Why? The main reason I run is to reconnect with nature. Immersing myself in a woodlands or meadow, carried there only by legs and a pair of shoes, gives me an unparalleled feeling of peace and freedom. Running is my means for tapping into the wild roots of my humanity, something I find otherwise hard to gratify in an urban life. I see the Green Man as a celebration of exactly this: a celebration of the green, wild side within. And more personally, to me it's a celebration of the part that running has played in this aspect of my life. What better way to celebrate this than to circle my home city, through the greenery and the pain!

Without the green spaces in Bristol I likely wouldn't have gotten into running. At the very least, I wouldn't have understood my position in nature as well as I do now, and I wouldn't have the contentment that comes with it. The Avon Wildlife Trust has played an important role in this. Their efforts to safeguard the green spaces in Bristol, among neighbouring areas, has helped to preserve and grow these areas that are so important to me and Bristol as a whole. Such is why I'll be running in aid of the Trust.

I would be very grateful for any donations to the Avon Wildlife Trust, to help me in giving back to the green areas that have given so much to me. Thank you!
