Story
This year, I’ve hit a big milestone – the big 5-0 – and to mark it, I wanted to do something a little different. No party, no fuss… just me and two of my closest mates doing something meaningful (and a bit mad).
I’ve known Rob and Jon since we were 18. We met at university and we’ve been running, laughing and challenging each other ever since. Between us we’ve done a fair few marathons and events over the years – but this time, we wanted a challenge that would push us physically and mentally, while allowing us to give back in the process.
So we signed up for the Giddy Horse Challenge. No, there are no horses involved. It's a 12 hour team relay race where we’ll aim to run a combined 78 miles between us. Yes, really. 78 miles. A full marathon each.
12 hours. Very little sleep. Very many snacks.
We’ve all been running in some shape or form since we met, but we’re not all coming into this at the same fitness level, so training for Giddy Horse has been a great motivator, especially with a great cause like this behind us.
We’re raising money for the Olive Academies Foundation, which supports young people who’ve been excluded from mainstream education. The Foundation funds brilliant things like residential trips, mentoring, and wellbeing activities that give young people hope, confidence and new chances in life.
As a dad, and through my work with young people, I’ve seen just how powerful those opportunities can be. I know Rob and Jon feel the same. That’s why we’re putting in the miles.
So if you’re able to support us, we’d be hugely grateful. Whether it’s a donation, a share, or just cheering us on at 3am when we’re wondering what on earth we were thinking – it all makes a difference.
Thanks for backing us.
Adam
