Story
In February 2024 life was turned upside down after receiving a call out of the blue to be told that my Dad had a brain tumour. Following initial treatment to reduce the size of the mass, it was thought that it was a CNS (Central Nervous System) Lymphoma, which is what led me to reaching out to this fantastic charity for a marathon place.
Lymphoma Action are the UK's only charity dedicated to lymphoma, which is very surprising given that it is the 5th most common cancer. They have been providing information and support for over 35 years, helping thousands of people affected by lymphoma, which can affect young and old alike. Their mission is to make sure no one faces lymphoma alone.
Whilst it is not now thought to be lymphoma that my Dad has as he undergoes further tests to establish the root cause of the mass, the range of emotions that I experienced at the time and seeing the impact that this disease could have had on my family so suddenly and unexpectedly has inspired me to still take part in the London Marathon 2025 in aid of Lymphoma Action.
I have ran regularly now for the last 3-4 years, but it was only ever intended as a way to keep fit and active and I never had any ambitions to run a marathon or distances anywhere near that mark! I’ve always hated running, I still don’t like it now but get a sense of achievement afterwards out of knowing I’ve done something positive for my health and wellbeing. The competitive side of me found that easier as I was improving and was beating PB’s regularly, but it’s tougher now as once easily achievable times and paces seem impossible to get near. Now I’ve got the biggest challenge of all to inspire me, to get me out training and to get the miles in between now and 27th April 2025.
All donations are gratefully received and very much appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read.
