I'm raising funds to support Hull Hospitals’ Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Altra Yorkshire Marathon 2025 · 19 October 2025 ·

The Hull Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Hull NICU) cares for over 500 premature babies every year. Funds raised will help enhance the unit above and beyond what the NHS can achieve alone.

Story

On Thursday 15th May at 7:29am, our beautiful daughter Florence Elsie Langstaff was born prematurely at 29 weeks 3 days weighing only 2.2lbs.

From the moment she was born, the care she’s received from the neonatal team at the Woman and Children’s Hospital Hull has been outstanding.

She’s currently receiving intensive care in the NICU department at Hull. During this stressful time in our lives they continue to deliver an amazing service, keeping us updated and reassured regarding the care she is receiving.

Therefore I have decided to run the Yorkshire Marathon on Sunday 19 October 2025 to try and raise £1000 to contribute to the NICU department so they can continue to provide first class care to other premature babies.

For those that know me, I can barely run 3 mile and to be honest I don’t really like running but it has always been a goal of mine to run a marathon. So for me this is a major challenge. But it is nothing in comparison to the challenges the team and the NICU department face every day.

Hull Neonatal Intensive Care Unit cares for over 500 premature babies, some stay for hours or days, whilst others stay for weeks and months. Hull is one of four Level 3 NICU’s within the Yorkshire and Humber region, caring for babies from 22 weeks gestation offering specialist intensive care for babies locally and across the country

Funds I raise will enhance the unit for the benefit for premature babies and their families by providing those important added extras above and beyond what the NHS can achieve alone. Together we can help make a real difference to parents.

Thank you for your support.
